08/04/2007 - Milwaukee, WI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Yovani Gallardo threw 6 2/3 solid innings as the Milwaukee Brewers edged the Philadelphia Phillies, 2-1, in the first of a three-game set at Miller Park.

Gallardo (4-1) yielded just one run and four hits while striking out seven and walking one.

Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder had an RBI apiece for the Brewers, who won for just the third time in 10 games.

Pat Burrell homered for the Phillies, who have lost three of four since a four-game winning streak.

Kyle Kendrick (5-2) went seven innings, allowing two runs on eight hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

Fielder put the Brewers on the board in the first with a two-out single to right, scoring Corey Hart, who was hit by a pitch and stole second with nobody out.

Milwaukee added another run in the fifth when Braun slapped a single to left, plating Gallardo who singled to left with one-out. Burrell's throw from left beat Gallardo, but he was called safe after he inadvertently kicked the ball out of catcher Chris Coste's glove while sliding home.

In the seventh, Ryan Howard led off with a walk, but Aaron Rowand then grounded into a double play that proved costly because Burrell followed with his 16th homer of the year, a towering drive deep into the seats in left center.

Francisco Cordero struck out the side in the ninth for his 33rd save of the season.

The Phillies placed catcher Rod Barajas on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a right groin strain and purchased the contract of right-hander Clay Condrey from Triple-A Ottawa to fill the roster spot...Barajas is the fifth Phillie in eight days and 13th this season to go on the DL...Burrell extended his hitting streak to 12 games...Milwaukee's Craig Counsell was a late scratch from the Brewers starting lineup because he felt light-headed. Josh Johnson won't be ready when the season starts April 2.

Grapefruit League action starts Wednesday, but Johnson, penciled in as the No. 2 starter, hasn't even thrown off a mound at full speed since September. He's experienced some soreness in his right forearm.

Among the candidates to take Johnson's spot in the rotation are left-hander Chris George and right-handers Yusmeiro Petit and Jose Garcia.

Right-hander Sergio Mitre, who missed most of last season with arm and shoulder problems, also is behind.

With Johnson's status doubtful, Gonzalez said right-hander Ricky Nolasco will stay in the rotation and no longer will be considered a candidate for closer.
